Login without facebook or google
Some users would like a separate authentication system.

We are happy to let you know that this has been done.

I work in an environment where Google and Facebook accounts are blocked. This keeps me from logging in until I get home. A separate login would be nice.

I'm glad this is planned. Not only because I don't want to share my information, but because if I'm not at home, it's annoying to first have to login to facebook or google, before I can login to reader.
I'm also wondering why you had to make login via a facebook app, isntead of just using the login via facebook (same with google).

I think it would be very nice to log in only with nickname. when I do it with my gmail account after logging out of Old Reader I have to go to Google and log out there too. it's annoying.

A separate The Old Reader account would be preferred, but OpenID would be acceptable,
I'm definitely not connecting my google or facebook account with a random website I'm just trying out, not even using one of my throwaway google / facebook accounts.

I don't agree with the harsh tone of the person who initially requested this; I realize how it would take some substantial work to get this set up. It is something I would love to see, however, as I don't use Google or Facebook for privacy reasons.
Thanks. :)

I have separate accounts of social networks and emails for when this type of thing happens. So I give my spam account to them. It's so annoying to give access of my personal email/facebook to third parties...
+10 login without fb or google

Another +1 for Persona - it has the privacy-preserving property people are looking for, and is (or can be, if your email provider cooperates) decentralised rather than owned by a single company.

I think Persona would be a sane baseline, and easy to implement: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/persona/

With Google Reader closing down this RSS reader might be nice alternative - sad to see that it requires to access so many private information. Just let us login with giving out only email.

For me, OpenID would be the most preferred method for authentication, secondly traditional username/password.
I very much like the idea to use the same login on several websites, but I don't want to mix my Google or (if I had) Facebook account into this. Therefore OpenID is perfect for me.
As many others, I am now looking for alternatives to the soon to be dead Google Reader, and I have yet to find any. So far The Old Reader seems to be the best alternative for me, hopefully you will have a clean way to login by the time Google Reader shuts down :)

Admin ;-)
Your answer to the request not to give Old Reader access to our contacts (that suddenly 'disappeared' now) said that you are not going to do it in the near future!
P.S.: Why has the request with the most votes been deleted?
-
Georg,
What made you think we were ignoring this? The request was only created today.

Ignoring this really doesn't make Old Reader seem any trustworthy. Hope for current users they are not only collecting their address books.

Would you be satisfied with a third-party auth that doesn't infer access to your data (perhaps openID)?
