Add option to open items in background tabs
I generally read through feed items and open the ones I want to read fully in a seperate tab using middle mouse click. An option to always open tabs in the background when hitting 'o' would be very useful.
There are various ways to solve this using JavaScript, hopefully the team can find a good solution.
There is now a “b” keyboard shortcut for that.
We could not make it work in Firefox, but feel free to send us patches if you know a cross-browser solution.

I'd like a button similar to what google reader has now on the right when in list view. I just use google reader in list view and open things I want to read in background tabs and mark the rest as read, so if the old reader had this feature I'd be able to use it happily.

You can use 'b' key to open a post in new background tab. It only seems to work in Chrome and Safari, so it is not part of our official keyboard shortcuts yet.

All of my votes.
Currently both 'o' and 'v' open active tabs for the link, really frustrating when I want to open a bunch of links before I read through them.

Hey,
Yesterday I created a Chrome extension that does exactly that (its based on the extension for the Google Reader). Here's the link:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/the-old-reader-open-posts/flngjofiakcedagnmcfigijafdocbebd@Eduardo "v" and "o" keys open current item in a new tab, but usually also make that tab active (unless your browser or extensions are configured to do otherwise).
