Mark all items older than a day, or a week as read
Keep feeds from showing time expired items.
You can now mark items as read older than 1 week, 1 month and 1 year.

Not quite complete though ... a week is a lot, at least regarding news. If I don't find the time to read my news feeds within three days, there's so much that I need to mark it read manually.
So, if you could add 'older than one day' or 'older than three days' - this would be a big relief, too.
Btw. that's the feature I use the most and which I missed most since I moved to TOR from Google Reader. So I was very happily surprised when I found you integrated it! -

I'd add a month, even. I miss this option a lot. Sometimes I go through individual feeds and mark all read but it'd be nice to hit all of them at once with "mark all read older than a month".

This is the one feature I missed the most when moving from G reader and the one thing that has prevented me from utilizing this reader more often and recommending it to friends. I frequently made use the of the optional "Mark as read items older than a day" to keep track of my many feeds after a few days of being unable to check them. I hope TPTB will consider this.

Yes, please, this i would be a wonderful addition. I get about 1000 posts a week and I only read maybe 700 or 800, leaving the rest to rot down the feed. Right now i have 1315 unread, and about 1000 of those i wont read. Back in Reader i was able to clear "older than 2 weeks" every so often, thus reducing my unread count considerably, since anything i havent read in over 2 weeks is likely to never get read. Please.

The ability to mark aged items as read is inherently optional. G reader had the ability to mark any folder, sub-folder, or all items as read if they were older than a day or week. I have thousands arrive in a given day - and I always wished G reader had the ability to mark read in hours or minutes as well as (like another poster suggested).
The lack of this feature is the one and only feature that keeps me using more then one RSS reader - when I want to just digest the fresh stuff from a given feed - I use another reader which has that capacity. More often than not - I just mark everything read in The Old Reader, and come back to it later. -

This is the most important feature that I miss when compared to google reader...hope there would a drop down soon to select mark all items older than ### days as read

Obviously this has to be optional.
It would be *very* useful for us google refugees - I've currently got 672 unread posts (and I don't imagine that is particularly high).

Ya I miss this too.
Ideally it would be something more like "mark items older than ## amount of time as read" (hours minutes, days)An option to undo it or "view items older than ## amount of time" would be cool too if you needed to somehow undo it.

Please make this optional... some users WANT a reader to keep the older posts.
I, for instance wipe all old posts in some high-traffic feeds, but a few rarely-posted-to blogs are worth reading even if I don't get around to it for a month or so.

This was the one thing I used almost constantly in the old reader. I can go weeks without having time to read, and coming back to 3000+ items is annoying when I can't wipe them without also getting rid of more recent information.

I agree - same here specifically for this! When you subscribe to a "hot deals" type feed, and return after vacation I loved that with G-Reader I could make as read anything older than a day, or a week for example. That way I got the still active deals, and didn't have to sort through the old dead deal posts.

This is the single feature that is most important to me in a Google Reader replacement. I wish I could use all 10 votes.

Only if it's optional [2]

Only if it's optional -- I don't always read all of my feeds in one day (or week) and would be really unhappy if my feeds were automatically marked as read.

Yes please, this is a definite must especially for all of us that have loads of feeds.

Kevin Buckley commented
Yep, this feature is a must. Otherwise you end up with 100s of stale posts.

If you had a drop down menu next to the mark as red button to specify the time, that would be helpful.
