  1. Retain Article/Post Formatting

Old Reader doesn't even maintain some obvious formatting, such as text wrapping around left aligned images. Google Reader did this very well, retaining the original formatting of articles/posts. The Old Reader makes the very barest of efforts.

  3. security: http login page should redirect to https! please.

The login page should use SSL/TLS certs to encrypt data in transit between the browser and Old Reader's servers. HTTP version should redirect to SSL/TLS site. Ideally all of the traffic to the app would be encrypted, but a bare minimum should be the login page.

  4. Add Option to not render attachments for certain feeds

I have some soup.io feeds. Now the guys there mostly do image feeds by displaying the image once in the feed AND as an attachment. Now they show up twice in theoldreader. I can use "n" to scroll to the next one, but it still would be nice to be able to do that!

  5. I would like to see the search feature improved

Whenever I use the search feature it never finds what I want, without using "AND" in between each word. And even when I do use it like that it doesn't find all of the posts regarding those keywords.

For example I search for "This Week In SEO" without quotes it gives me this:

    http://screencast.com/t/AlGynZg1T2

Not at all what I'm searching for.

When I search for "This Week In SEO" with quotes it gives me the same results:
    http://screencast.com/t/AfAFA9Ta

Even searching for "This" "Week" "In" "SEO" with quotes around every word gives me the same results:

    http://screencast.com/t/dqCWojLnRoeq

    Only when I search…

  7. Impose Time Limit for Suggestions

If a suggestion does not achieve, say, 10 votes in a month, it falls.
If it doesn't achieve 50 votes in, say, 3 months it falls.

The rationale for this is that there are so many suggestions that few people (if any) will give them the attention they may or may not deserve.

  9. Make text links clickable.

Google Reader automatically converted any pure text url's in posts into clickable links.

Is it possible for The Old Reader to do the same?

Many posts, Twitter feeds for instance but also others, come with a plain text url. This means I spend a lot of time highlighting the url in Firefox and then right-clicking to select Open url in new Tab.

Random example: The Pacific barreleye fish has a transparent head… http://t.co/9ivzg8aSb6

I hope its possible to add this feature.

  11. Add Tag to Pocket Integration

The Old Reader's Pocket integration is phenomenal. Simply hitting Star adds an article to Pocket queue. The only problem is that unless tags are added I have no way to telling if an article came from The Old Reader. It would be great if a tag is automatically added to the Pocket. Tag can be anything like theoldreader or user defined.

  12. Please Offer:Pay with Alipay for Premium Account

I am from China and willing to upgrade to premium account.

The problem is: I don't have a paypal account and I DO NOT want to create one.

Instead, why not you guys provide an additional option: Pay with Alipay from Alibaba?

According to Credit Suisse, the total value of online transactions in China grew from an insignificant size in 2008 to around RMB 4 trillion (US$660 billion) in 2012. Most of them are Alipay account holders.

OR please read this news on Market Watch on Feb. 2014:

Sorry PayPal: China’s Alipay is world’s No. 1

    http://blogs.marketwatch.com/thetell/2014/02/10/sorry-paypal-chinas-alipay-is-worlds-no-1/

  13. Filter in feeds

I used Yahoo Pipes (it was removed this week) to filter items within a feed; it would be so much better if The Old Reader could do this directly.

What it did was it read a Google Sheet which had a column of filter terms; only feed items with those terms would be displayed on the feed the pipe created.

It would be a lot quicker and more user friendly if The Old Reader could read this sheet (or have its own way to save filter terms) and then filter feeds based on it.

I really hope this functionality will…

  14. Enable a "View starred only" Filter Option for Each Feed

The user shall be able to filter a view to a single feed by starred items only.

[1] A "View starred" button will be displayed to the right of the current "Refresh" and "Mark all as read" buttons while the user is viewing the feed. [see mockup: https://goo.gl/jAtqKY]

[2] When the user selects the "View starred" button, the displayed items in the feed will only be the items the user has starred. In addition, the text in the "Viewed starred" button will change to read, "Unview starred".

[3] When the "View starred" filter is active, the individual items displayed…

  15. Add subscribe button when viewing a post outside your subscriptions

When I'm reading an awesome post on the trending feed or shared by a friend (or anywhere else outside of my own subscriptions), I'd like to have a quick and easy way to subscribe to the posts' feed. It would be nice to have a subscribe button right next to the feed label, or at the bottom with the other buttons (star, mark unread, etc).

This would make it easier to discover new things to read and stay up to date, all within the comfort of The Old Reader!

  16. Please add "skip to the next post" button at the top of every item in mobile interface

Just like google reader has. While using desktop version, a "n" shortcut is handy for that but you can't use it on mobile unfortunately. But it is even more important to be able to jump to another item since scrolling is so much slower.

  19. Remove feed title from article title in list view

Right now in list view, the feed title is right next to every article title. This can be jarring when this combination causes long feed titles crowd article titles from view. Google Reader doesn't even show feed titles in list view, only the article titles. I think it'd be great to either remove the feed titles or put them on a line under the article title.
