In case anyone else stumbles upon this, lamenting the fact that it has not been implemented...
Technically you can use a custom "sharing" to accomplish this (Settings > Social > Send To Services):
https://api.pinboard.in/v1/posts/add?auth_token=<username>:<api_token>&description=%{title}&url=%{url}&toread=yes
But it's wonky since it requires opening a new tab. Ideally it should be set up identically to Pocket as a Read Later service.
