Have "O" set to "expand and collapse post" and have only "V" set to "Open post in a new tab".
I wanted to make a suggestion. Instead of having both "O and V" set to "Open post in a new tab", why not change it so that "O" is set to "expand and collapse post" (like it did in Google Reader as well as AOL and Diggs reader). And just have only "V" set to "Open post in a new tab". for some reason I thought it was this way when I first started using "TheOldReader" or it could just be my imagination due to being used to that configuration. I feel this would be more keyboard friendly for people…

All posts marked read problem with feeds with long articles
I have a problem that sometimes all posts are marked read when I open one/some of the top posts. I suspect this happens with feeds with long articles.
Conditions: I use usually next item down arrow. Mark read when scroll is on (but like I said: I have openen only the top posts). Firefox.
For example this has happened many times with feed:

Mark Articles older than X as read
Basically this is identical to what Google Reader had. It had options like 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, etc, it will take all those articles older than the specified period and mark them as unread, but also marks the articles newer than that period as unread.
Great for reversing accidental "Mark all as read".

Allow mark feed as read without having to load the feed
It would be great if I could mark a feed or a folder as read without having to click on the feed and load all the posts. ie: if I could right click on the feed/folder and choose an option to mark as read, that would really help with efficiency of using Old Reader for me.

Allowing to have "all items" as a start page
Hello,
Could it be possible to have an option in the preferences that would allow to have directly the "all items" page when going on http://theoldreader.com.
Moreover, this would also allow to jump directly on "all items" when clicking on the theolreader extension button on Safari.
Many thank.
Best regards,
Olivier.

<<<< Provision to see "like topics" of a followers >>>>>
I enjoy the old reader where the world is viewed in one touch of a button. I suggest in addition to "share" topics, a followers may be allowed to view "like" topics of a member.

New themes!
I suggest you to put on some new good-looking themes, to make the site more pleasant and readable, like feedly! That's what Google Reader lacked of too...
And also, please shrink the subscriptions bar on the left, it's way too big.
Thanks!18 votes -
More frequent feed updates
Please prioritize more frequent updates over archiving ancient articles (which I still don't understand why people would really need). RSS is designed to inform people of news, not record history. Many of my time-sensitive feeds are showing up 12-24 hours after the original post was released (I know bc I see it on other readers 12-24 hours earlier). And not just a handful of feeds; it's a substantial percentage. I know the more updates costs more money, but I hope that resources are being prioritized for higher update frequency.
Note: I am speaking about average performance over the last month.…

"Mark all as read" shouldn't mark articles not yet displayed
When you hit "mark all as read" there may be new articles that haven't yet appeared in the list (i.e. will appear after a refresh of the list). Currently these pending articles are marked as read - but they shouldn't be (the user doesn't know how many there are and what they're about).
Google Reader would only mark as read articles actually in the list. This is the right behaviour.

allow me to "like" a post without opening it
In list view, I like to scan headlines and then mark posts for future reading. As it is now, I have to open and scroll down to the bottom of each post to like it which takes a bit of time.

Mark an article as read if I middle-click its main link.
Currently, left-clicking the main link at the top of an article entry will mark that article as read. This opens the article in a new tab, but also focuses the new tab, forcing me to switch tabs back to The Old Reader if I want to open more than one thing before I actually read them (which I pretty much always do). A middle-click in all major browsers opens the link in a new tab, but keeps the current tab selected. If this also marked the article as read, it would be the most efficient option by a wide margin!

Fix the behavior of the 'm' key
The help screen describes the m key as "read/unread a post". I think the "m" key should be equivalent to clicking the "Mark as unread" button on the currently expanded post, but it is not. If I am viewing posts in list mode, and I open a post that is not the topmost one, and then I scroll all the way up using the mouse wheel, and then I press the m key, it will actually mark the topmost post as read even though I have not even opened it yet. Instead, I would expect that pressing the 'm' key…

Improve focus retention on single expanded article in List view to allow keyboard shortcuts to work function against focused article.
Generally speaking the UI focus seems to be easily lost after expanding a single article in list view if any subsequent clicks or scrolling are done (while the expanded article continues to remain open). Subsequent attempted keyboard shortcut actions either cease functioning or are actioned against an apparently random (or top of list) article.
