MAKE IT MORE OBVIOUS you don't support old browsers like IE 8!!!!
I just spent all this time setting up an account and importing my Google Reader data---only to find the Old Reader is unusable because my browser is outdated. Grrrr! Very annoying! You can do better than that. I have visited other reader websites that told me up front what they did and didn't support.

Add subscription in batches
I would love to see a function which allows me to add multiple subscriptions, e.g. one for each line in a textarea field.
I know that there is an import function but I've a collection of RSS feeds in a text document which I now either have to add one at the time or convert into an OPML file and then import it, both is quite time consuming.

allow feeds to load beyond import time
my feeds are only listing items as far back as around the day i imported from google reader. scrolling down farther than may 30 or 31 displays this message: "No posts below this line. Probably you have read them all." first of all, i have not read them all, and second, even if i have, i still want to be able to go back to them. right now i have a lot of feeds with unread posts from last week that i cannot see.

Scroll bar in list mode too narrow
Please make the scroll bar to the right in list mode a bit wider. Now it is hard to get the mouse pointer easily to the right spot. I use a 1680x1050 screen resolution on a laptop.
Thanks for a good reader!

Fetch Full Content
I use some chrome plugins with google reader that fetch the full content (or specific parts of the content) from the site when the RSS feed is abbreviated. I would love for this functionality to be built into the old reader (or have those plugins work with the old reader).

support feeds with broken hostnames
Old Reader doesn't currently support feeds with technically broken hostnames like username-.tumblr.com/rss while Google Reader and several other readers do.
I'd really love to see Old Reader as a complete replacement for Google Reader and for that I think at a minimum you need to be able to support all the same feeds.

Have an option for people who just want to actually read their articles.
That means no gradients, rounded corners or silly fonts.

Un-bold the headline after you click on it.
In Reader, when you click on a story and read it, the headline becomes un-bolded and marked read. in TheOldReader, even after I click on a headline, it stays bolded.

Set a feed to automatically add all new articles to Pocket
I like the Pocket integration, as I often read the list of new articles in the morning, add to Pocket the ones that I want to read, and then read them offline with Pocket on my way to work. This works fine, but I noticed that for some feeds I always add all new articles to Pocket. It would be great, if I could have some kind of a setting on those feeds to make The Old Reader automatically add all the new articles to Pocket, without me having to do it manually.

Add subscription from a friend
I'm missing a simple feature. A simple clip to subscribe someone else's shared subscriptions, not following him

Blogroll/Link List HTML Generator
On my website, I have a tab for "Links" to share the sites that I enjoy reading. I published that link page with HTML that Google Reader produced based on subscriptions I had. I had reader set up in folders (News, Gossip, Recipes, Fun Stuff, Fashion, etc) and I could create HTML for each folder listing links to all my subscriptions.
Would love to see that here to replace that, so that I do not have to manually update, it just mimics what I am reading.

Smart folders
I'd love for there to be a way to define smart folders, such as "Only today's posts", "Only this week's posts", calculated by the user's current location / timezone.

Allow folders to be placed in Subscription folder.
And allow folders and feeds to be placed in any order in subscription folder.

have full screen option
I have a netbook. That means small screen. Google reader had the 'w' option to full screen within the window to remove everything except the reading pane. I would love to have that

Not automatically mark as read when clicking a post
I love the new "Scrolling through posts marks them as read" option, which I disable, since I don't want posts to mark themselves as read automatically.
Unfortunately, posts still mark themselves as "read" when I click on them (when selecting text, for example), so the feature is only partially implemented for me.
I wish the option would be clearer in the intent: either posts mark themselves as read when "seen" (clicked, scrolled by, etc.), or they don't.
Here's what I want (even if it may sound weird to somebody who works differently): I ONLY want to mark posts as…
