  1. Improve speed

    The only problem for me is the speed. Both speed navigating through the feeds categories and speed for geting the feed.

    Speed navigation is better now, but still a bit slow comparing to others readers.

    So the speed of feed update is the major problem right now.

  2. Make keypresses work regardless of the location of the mouse/cursor.

    I use the keyboard to scroll down the list of stories. Currently, I have to click in the white space of a story to make the keys start working. With Google Reader, keypresses worked regardless of what I had previously done with the mouse.

  4. Display titles in Unicode

    The Dutch soccer website Voetbal International offers a feed with headers using special characters like é, á, ï, ü, etc. These are not displayed correctly, because the titles are not encoded as Unicode on The Old Reader.

  5. Retina resolution Safari icon

    You could rework the Safari icon for your Reader plugin. The icon is lowres and does not support the Retina displays high resolution - so it looks pixelated.

  6. display articles in order of arrival, not by publication time

    I asked about this on the forum and was told "many users" prefer articles ordered by publication time. I find it hard to believe any high volume reader would prefer this. I get hundreds of posts a day, I want to see them all at the top when they arrive, not constantly be scrolling back to find the ones that got fetched hours after they were published.

  7. Improve the performance of posting a comment

    It's very slow to post a comment and sometimes I think that I post something but it was in the load status yet. =/

  8. Allow moving through feeds without opening items

    Many of the feeds that I subscribe to have fairly high signal-to-noise ratios. As a result, I routinely scroll through the items, marking 50-75% (or more) of them as read before actually opening any of them. Currently, it doesn't appear that The Old Reader can do anything other than browse from the first item incrementally to the end, opening each and every feed item in turn.

  10. add a keyboard shortcut for closing the current item

    I like the new keyboard shortcuts (as of 1 May) but you appear to be missing one for closing or collapsing the item that is currently being read. In Google Reader it's 'o'. Since you use that for opening the post in a new tab, you might use 'x' which would match up nicely with Shift+x (collapse selected folder).

  13. Preview text to the right of collapsed items

    It would be nice to see a short preview of an item's body to the right of the title when running in collapsed mode.

  14. Date sorting "All items"

    I want to have the possibility to sort posts in "All items" by date.

    Now it seems to only sort by feed then date which groups all posts from every separate feed.

    Actually, posts are supposed to be sorted by the time they are fetched. Due to some feed fetching delays we are seeing right now because of the massive influx of new users, new posts are being grouped by feed. This should stop happening as soon as we are back to normal feed fetching schedule.

  15. Clicking Item Marks it as Read

    Clicking an item to mark it as read seems like an obvious feature. It's the default in web browser, emails and various feed readers, such as Bloglines, Net Vibes and Sage. It is also available in Google Reader as a Grease Monkey extension (https://userscripts.org/scripts/show/140290). Adding it to the Old Reader seems like a no brainer. Thanks!

  16. fix some feeds that are not showing

    case in point: doki.co/feed
    there obviously are feeds, but the old reader won't show them :(
    it only says "there are no posts here yet"

  17. Improve the overall performance (mark all as read, loading a category or feed, etc)

    Possibly this is due to the current swarm of people switching from Google Reader; possibly this is already planned. But while Google Reader felt quite instant, clicking on a different feed or category, or clicking on 'Mark all as read' takes a few seconds to respond.

    The pacman (cute!) appears instantly, but it takes a while to load. I don't know if this is the implementation (is it asynchronous? do you wait for a result from the server? maybe GR updated the UI without waiting for a server result) or just the current server load.

    If this is planned or…

  20. Do not lock in users!

    Allow users to export their feeds as OPML! This is important. Many users here have bad experience from cloud applications disappearing (i.e. Google Reader), please leave us with a way out from The Old Reader as well. I guess that this will give you more users in the long run.
