  1. implement basic syntax highlighting for pre, code and/or samp tags

I subscribe to a growing number of programming-related blogs, and posts with larger pieces of code become much less comfortable to read than on the origin website. I think (even very basic) syntax highlighting would remedy this.

  2. "Gallery" view for image-centric feeds

I think the Feedly/Blogroll "gallery" or "magazine" view is stupid for most things, which is why I'm using The Old Reader instead of those, but it does make sense for feeds that are just images, like my Flickr friends.

So after implementing "Per-feed and per-folder display settings" https://theoldreader.uservoice.com/forums/187017-feature-requests/suggestions/3738257-per-feed-and-per-folder-display-settings, it would be nice if one of those display settings was "gallery" for displaying lots of image posts as compactly as possible.

  3. Ye Olde Reader sister site

Make a sister site, yeoldereader.com, which is exactly this site except that "The Old Reader" is replaced by "Ye Olde Reader" everywhere.

  4. add an option to display similar feeds

In Google reader, next to the feed title, there the option arrow related to this feed. Among those options, one I find really usefull displays the similar feeds (similar or related content) and subscribe to this feed.

Such an option would be nice in The Old Reader

  5. increase the size of the reading pane

I am really thrilled with the idea of something to take over for Google Reader and am glad you guys took on the project.
On a 13" widescreen laptop with Chrome filling the entirety of vertical space and the majority of horizontal space, the reading pane is fairly small. Between the large Masthead/search bar and then the feed-specific information bar, it takes a lot of scrolling to read through an article. I'd love for the ability to customize space or at least offer a full browser window reading pane option with shortcut, like GReader.

    Thank you!

  8. Reference friends in comments (like @someone or +someone)

The basic idea is reference a friend that I follow and him follows me back in a comment.

When the reference is made, him/her recieve a mail with the post link. =)

  11. Allow all/more likes on a post to be visible

If I recall correctly, Google Reader used to have the "and ## others liked this" string as a clickable object to list out all of the people who liked a post. If that's not feasible (due to the possibility of loading 1000 names), maybe allow one click to load up to some acceptable number of names, and subtract that number from the "undisplayed likes" count.

Mainly, I just want to be able to see the people who liked a post that are either following me or that I'm following.

  12. Opt to limit number of saved items below standard 1,000.

An option to change the number of maximum saved items to specific or pre-determined values such as 200, 500, 750. Saves you space and gives the user the option to cut down on out-dated news. Personally I have no need or desire to read through 1,000 old articles and only really care for the more recent data.

  13. Fixed sidebar width

The sidebar, with the list of subscriptions, should remain at a fixed width (as in google reader), and not change width when the browser changes width.

If you have your browser windows wide, the sidebar gets too wide, and it's just wasted space, that could be used for the posts instead.

  14. The sort order date for a single feed or single group

For example, the feed from the forum I want to read from the old to the new record, something to keep the discussion within the band.
But newsfeed about space I want to read the newest entries first, and move on to the older.
Now sort mode is set for all subscriptions and not only one.

  15. Custom pre-made feedlists

You have a friend that doesn't use The Old Reader, but reads a lot of posts from a lot of blogs. You tell him to use The Old Reader, but he is a lazy person and isn't inclined to change his behaviour. You could use this feature to pre-build a feed for him, with the blogs you know he likes, and send a link to this custom feed to him.

With that link he could experiment the feed-reading stuff and, if he likes, he could just register and register that feedlist for his account.

Also, this could be used to…

  16. allow pasting OPML data into text area

File upload is broken in some mobile browsers, like Google Chrome. As a mitigation, we could allow users to paste the OPML data into a text area as an alternative.

  17. Sharing a collection of articles in a magazine like formate.

I need to have a feature that allow users to share a few articles in a magazine formate. I want to tag them as "Week-1 June-13" or like "Diabetes", "Childbirth". Then if my followers want they can just click on any tag and find these articles that I have tagged. This just simple tagging. I used to do it on Google Reader through exporting the feeds to Google Blogger and then share it with my subscribers (people who want me to select articles every week for them from around 150 feeds)

  18. Use Smaller Font in Feed Title

The feed title at the top of the right-hand pane is in a very large bold font, and does not scroll with the article. ie. it is always on the screen, and advertises what you are reading about to anyone within 20 feet.

I always liked that Google Reader's subtlety. It had the same title but in a moderate sized font and scrollable.

  20. Add subscription from a friend

I'm missing a simple feature. A simple clip to subscribe someone else's shared subscriptions, not following him
