improve feed update
seems that the update speed and accuracy (sometimes i dont see new updates when there are new updates) needs to be improved. when compared to google reader (which might be a little unfair to make that comparison at this point) is much faster. keep up the good work....hoping this becomes my new RSS source.
26 votesWe are having some capacity issues that prevent feeds from updating on time. We are working hard to get this fixed, please check our status page (http://status.theoldreader.com/) for updates.
Please accept our apologies for the inconveniences.

Move unsubscribe button
Option to hide Unsubscribe button in main pane.
If you are used to use Mark All As Read, it is easy to accidentally click the Unsubscribe button because of its close proximity.

allow turning off "scrolling past item marks it read" as an option
I don't find the auto-marked-"read" behavior useful (though I know others do). It'd be nice to be able to turn this off.

Display titles in Unicode
The Dutch soccer website Voetbal International offers a feed with headers using special characters like é, á, ï, ü, etc. These are not displayed correctly, because the titles are not encoded as Unicode on The Old Reader.
The feed's URL is below:

Bad handling of xml:base on entry
All the links and images in Tim's blog at http://www.tbray.org/ongoing/ongoing.atom are broken when viewing an entry in The Old Reader. I'm guess the reader doesn't handle the xml:base attribute on feed and/or entry elements correctly. Please fix!

to let to send subscriptions to Kindle
The best thing in Google Reader was the possibility to get my feed to my Kindle: http://www.klip.me/googlereader/welcome
It would be perfect to be able to use this feature with your reader after Google retire their reader.

An option to remove yourself from the import queue.
I have just imported my subscriptions from Google Reader manualy (actualy using javascript and your feeds/subscribe?=url feature :-) ), so I no longer need to have my subscriptions imported. It would be nice to have an option to cancel the import process to speed up the queue.

Add support for Twitter
Sharing posts to Twitter as well as logging in with Twitter. My own use is definitely Twitter sharing first. Do very little sharing on FB and G+.

Explain your business model
I'm leery of free services that don't explain what their business model is. Am I the customer, or the product?

add hover text to the buttons above the feed on the right.
It took me forever to realized the the up/down arrow was for changing the display via date (which is what I wanted, and almost put in a request for). Perhaps some hover text over the buttons could make this clearer what each button does.

Provide a partial mark-as-read mechanism for list view
In Google Reader's mobile view, you get essentially a list view, but it only shows 15 posts at a time, and lets you mark just those 15 as read. Something similar is needed for The Old Reader's list view. Either give us the ability to see them in smaller chunks, like Google does, or enable the "scrolling past posts marks them as read" feature for list view as well as full view. Without one of the other of these, if you have a busy feed and only time to read part of it at a given moment, you have no…

Allow moving through feeds without opening items
Many of the feeds that I subscribe to have fairly high signal-to-noise ratios. As a result, I routinely scroll through the items, marking 50-75% (or more) of them as read before actually opening any of them. Currently, it doesn't appear that The Old Reader can do anything other than browse from the first item incrementally to the end, opening each and every feed item in turn.
4 votesYou could use list view mode to scroll through items without opening.
