Allow nested folders
Google Reader never supported this, but many other RSS readers do. It would be great to be able to have nested folders for mass operations (mark all as read) and better organization of feeds.

Set a feed to automatically add all new articles to Pocket
I like the Pocket integration, as I often read the list of new articles in the morning, add to Pocket the ones that I want to read, and then read them offline with Pocket on my way to work. This works fine, but I noticed that for some feeds I always add all new articles to Pocket. It would be great, if I could have some kind of a setting on those feeds to make The Old Reader automatically add all the new articles to Pocket, without me having to do it manually.

Get rid of the "Unsubscribe" button for folders
Having an unsubscribe button seems completely unnecessary, but potentially very dangerous. It seems more likely a person would use it by accident than on purpose. And if people think there actually is some use, perhaps turning it on or off could be an option in the settings menu.

Keyboard shortcut to open next folder with unread items
Many people (including myself) navigates through folders and reads them. I really would like to see a keyboard shotcut that takes me to the next folder that contains unread items (like Shift + n, but skips read folders) and then automatically opens it (Shift + o). That would save me many key strokes.

Provide option to make list view (even) more compact, to help with high-volume feeds.
Big feeds like Zero Hedge or Hacker News pump out hundreds of posts per day -- RSS readers with an ultracompact list view make scanning these much easier. If The Old Reader had an ultracompact option, that'd be immensely helpful (less scrolling).

"Mark all as read" shouldn't mark articles not yet displayed
When you hit "mark all as read" there may be new articles that haven't yet appeared in the list (i.e. will appear after a refresh of the list). Currently these pending articles are marked as read - but they shouldn't be (the user doesn't know how many there are and what they're about).
Google Reader would only mark as read articles actually in the list. This is the right behaviour.

Move the comment button
Right now, the comment button is too close to "unshare", and it's possible to misclick on unshare by mistake.
If you could put "comment" somewhere else, maybe on the same level, to the right of unshare, it would be nice.

Bing alerts
More of an issue I haven't been able to find a solution for. It seems that when I try to grab an RSS feed from Bing News "Subscribe by RSS" and add that one subscription to The Old Reader "Add a Subscription", The Old Reader won't accept the subscription - I can't add to my subscription list at all. I'm not sure if this is a problem other folks have run into, but would love any insight/solutions.

Size the subscription bar contents better
This might be a bug report rather than a feature request. In Firefox 20.0 or Safari 5.1.9 on a Mac or Firefox 20.0.1 on Windows, the subscription bar on the left abbreviates subscription names too much.
For example, one of my subscriptions has the title "Office of the Privacy Commissioner", but in the subscription bar, it is shown as "Office of t..." followed by about a quarter of the width as blanks.
If I shrink the text or increase the size of the window, I see more, but I still have a great big blank section on the right side…

The sort order date for a single feed or single group
For example, the feed from the forum I want to read from the old to the new record, something to keep the discussion within the band.
But newsfeed about space I want to read the newest entries first, and move on to the older.
Now sort mode is set for all subscriptions and not only one.3 votes -
Option to open a specific folder directly when going to the home page
I have one main folder with news which I regularly read. The other folders don't have as much priority and I skim through those when I got some extra time. The "Home" section doesn't have any value for me, I'm not even looking at it, it's the list of news items that count and is the first thing I go to.
It would be great if an option was introduced to take you to the specified folder directly as soon as you go to "theoldreader.com" and are logged in.

"Go to tag/subscription/friend" keyboard shortcuts
Few very useful shortcuts are still missing (compared to Google Reader). Quoting GR help:
g then u go to subscription allows you to navigate to a subscription by entering the subscription name
g then t go to tag allows you to navigate to a tag by entering the tag name
g then f go to friend allows you to navigate to a friend's shared items by entering the friend's name

Buttons above AND below posts, instead of just below.
Here's the idea- how about the same buttons that appear under the posts (share, like...) also appear above it? It's sure would be useful for when I'm browsing my feeds at work (or other place, where my browsing time is limitted), I see something that interests me, and would like to like it for later (so I could return to it when I have the time). As for now it requires a massive amount of scrolling if the post happens to be a long one.

alphabetizing
Is it possible to alphabetize feeds manually or automatically?
I noticed one can drag them but that's a lot of work ... sometimes.
Hope to hear from you,regards,
Roel

Easily subscribe to eBay Search feeds.
You can easily subscribe to any eBay search by simply adding “&_rss=1” at the end of it. If you could add the option to do this automatically that would be handy!
