Emulate Google Reader "compact view"
Google reader had a function call "compact view" and it compresses the headlines into a more e-mail like format.

As a user I would like to configure my start page, e.g. "All items"
In many cases I would like to start with the "All items" page instead of the current "Home" page. So, it would be helpful to configure in the settings page the starting page one personally likes to have.

Mobile Site Static Menu or 'Back to Top'
I've been using The Old Reader for a good two weeks now and truly appreciate the service. Great minimalist UI and nice mobile adaptation. When I load a feed that is large or has a lot of unread items, scrolling can be difficult. Maybe either a small static menu button or a scroll to top button would be helpful?

Bug: Up/Down buttons don't work when page is scrolled slightly
To reproduce:
- Go to All Items.
- Click an item in the middle of the list.
- Scroll up a bit.
- Click the Up arrow button in the top right area.
Expected: to move to the article directly above, i.e. if I was on the 7th item it would then open #6.
Actual: the item at the top of the list is opened instead.

Extra audio support
Google Reader, Netvibes and Feedly seem to be able to play all of my mp3 podcast feeds perfectly in Firefox.
Theoldreader seems to do nothing when i press play.
Having emailed support they say it's because Firefox doesn't support mp3 files (which I find odd as the other three players seem to cope fine).
I propose that theoldreader add an extra case so that it uses the existing <audio> html tag for other browsers but embeds the audio in the same way Google etc. do for Firefox users.

Keep all unread posts, not only the newest ones when not using Reader for a while
When one is offline during holidays they might want to see all the news from the period of time, not only the newest ones. Keep all the unread posts.

Always visible "Mark All As Read" button
It's clumsy to scroll to All Items in order to reveal the Mark All As Read button. Maybe it's just me, but I 'empty' OldReader when I'm finished with a session.

Great reader! One suggestion
Great reader! One suggestion I'd like to make is to provide a link in the listing that allows you to go directly to the source article without having to open the summary? Most times I can simply read the headline and would like to go directly to the source without having to open the summary and then click on the provided link to go there.

Remove feed title from article title in list view
Right now in list view, the feed title is right next to every article title. This can be jarring when this combination causes long feed titles crowd article titles from view. Google Reader doesn't even show feed titles in list view, only the article titles. I think it'd be great to either remove the feed titles or put them on a line under the article title.

Option to hide "site: xxx" and "feed: xxx" on the top
Please make it possible to hide the "Seite: xxx and Feed: xxx" on the top of the feed-abonement. for me its not aesthetic. Maybe you can make a checkbox for this option in the settings. thx.

List view in mobile - open posts at top of post
On my iPhone when viewing in list view, it seems to open the post sometimes at the bottom of the post, sometimes the middle, rarely (but not never) the top. Consistency at the top would be better

"No post below this line..." not appearing in feed panel on mobile device at end of list
On my Nexus 7, using Android Firefox, the message:
"No posts below this line. Probably you have read them all."
does not appear when I have scrolled to the end of the feed list.
This makes it difficult for me to judge whether I have really read all the posts in the feed or I should wait for TheOldReader to fetch more feed items.

Add "Mark Previous as Read" feature
This is a feature in Google's Android app, but NOT their web interface (????). But it is OH SO helpful.
Say you have 900 unread items, but only time to scan over 300 and read 15. With this, you can scroll through the listing, check out interesting titles, skip the rest, then hit "mark previous as read" when you have to leave. Next time you come back, you start right where you left off.
It is, in my own opinion, a much more "powerful" feature than "Mark All as Read."

Open the post when you click from home page
On the 'Home' page there are three unread posts in a summary view. Clicking on the feed name (generally highlighted in green), takes you to the feed, as expected. Clicking on the post title, takes you to the same view, but I would expect it to have opened the post to view, as I have chosen the title.

Wrap text in list view.
Using list view in a narrow window, like on a mobile display, truncates the posts subject lines. Mobile is my main use case where this matters, but you can reproduce it with a desktop browser just by resizing it to be too skinny to display the whole thing. On my phone in portrait mode, list view in unusable because most of the subject lines are too truncated to understand what they're about. While the full view works, it makes scrolling through busy feeds take too long, especially since it includes images.
In other words, make it like the Google Reader…
