  1. Fetch Full Content

    I use some chrome plugins with google reader that fetch the full content (or specific parts of the content) from the site when the RSS feed is abbreviated. I would love for this functionality to be built into the old reader (or have those plugins work with the old reader).

  2. "Mark all as read" shouldn't mark articles not yet displayed

    When you hit "mark all as read" there may be new articles that haven't yet appeared in the list (i.e. will appear after a refresh of the list). Currently these pending articles are marked as read - but they shouldn't be (the user doesn't know how many there are and what they're about).

    Google Reader would only mark as read articles actually in the list. This is the right behaviour.

  3. Don't hide scroll bars

    On a PC without a fancy scroll function it is rather hard to scroll up and down the subscription list. You need to move the mouse to where you think the scroll bar is and then look up and down the screen for a small blob of green. Ideally the scroll bar should not be hidden no matter where the pointer is, and the rest of the bar to be a slightly different colour to the background. As we all know just because Google have started doing it does not make it right.

  4. Variable sidebar width

    Users should be able to resize sidebar using drag&drop.

  6. fix discrepancy between unread-posts-counter and displayed feeds

    The last few days, two of my feeds have had a (1) next to them, and thus the "all items" feed has had a (2) next to it. But none of them display any unread items. Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/jeGiJnC.png

  7. [List view] Add button to open a post in a new window

    I would appreciate it very much if there were a button available for each post in the list view such that it would allow me to open the post in a new window/browser tab. Upon clicking this button, the post should be marked as read.

  8. Un-bold the headline after you click on it.

    In Reader, when you click on a story and read it, the headline becomes un-bolded and marked read. in TheOldReader, even after I click on a headline, it stays bolded.

  9. Unload posts that have been scrolled out

    It looks like google reader unloads posts that the user have scrolled out. This helps to maintain low memory usage and stops any running audio/video embeds. We should try to do this as well.

  10. Share folders of feeds publicly: like Google Reader Bundles

    Google Reader had the ability to share folders of feeds publicly (as "Bundles") so users could share unique content sources by topic area. This curation allows new users to quickly get plugged into a topic, and can help experts/social media managers to discriminate sources to interested parties.

  11. Keep all unread posts, not only the newest ones when not using Reader for a while

    When one is offline during holidays they might want to see all the news from the period of time, not only the newest ones. Keep all the unread posts.

  12. Add option to highlight read/unread items differently

    As a refugee from Google Reader, a nice feature I see missing is having the whole row for an item highlighted according to read status.
    White for unread, yellow for currently selected, grey for read items.

    You have the little green indicator next to each line, but whole line highlighting will make it easier to use at a glance.

  13. Not automatically mark as read when clicking a post

    I love the new "Scrolling through posts marks them as read" option, which I *disable*, since I don't want posts to mark themselves as read automatically.

    Unfortunately, posts *still* mark themselves as "read" when I *click* on them (when selecting text, for example), so the feature is only *partially* implemented for me.

    I wish the option would be clearer in the intent: either posts mark themselves as read when "seen" (clicked, scrolled by, etc.), or they don't.

    Here's what I want (even if it may sound weird to somebody who works differently): I *ONLY* want to mark posts as read…

  14. Subscribe to sites that don't have feeds (page2rss/feed43)

    Google Reader added this function briefly, and then removed it.

    I'd be fine with you just using third-party sites like page2rss or feed43. All I'm asking is that if we paste a URL into the Subscribe box, and if you can't find a feed for that page, instead of just turning the box red (which is not a very good form of feedback, by the way), it will offer to subscribe to changes of that page via one of these sites instead, with everything filled in as automatically as possible.

  18. Ability to import starred items from Google Reader

    I imported all my google data but the starred items did not import. Can you add a functionality that does this?

  19. Limited text width to improve readability

    Google Reader uses a max width for entry text, presumably to improve readability. This makes it easier to read posts, as the eye does not need to move across as much of the screen to get to the next line. Essentially it makes the text width similar to a novel.

    .entry .entry-body, .entry .entry-title {
    max-width: 650px;
    }

  20. Sort by Most Relevant Posts

    Sort posts by the most relevant, according to the past activity (likes, shares, likes of friends), just like "Sort by Magic" feature in Google Reader (that is broken and do not work anymore).
