allow turning off "scrolling past item marks it read" as an option
I don't find the auto-marked-"read" behavior useful (though I know others do). It'd be nice to be able to turn this off.

Full text search
allow me to search the full text of the posts. currently search only searches the text of the post's titles, which i usually don't recall. if i remember a random detail that caught my interest, and want to find the post based on that, it should be doable. google reader functions this way, and it would never have occurred to me that the old reader would only search titles. despite loving the old reader overall, this single shortcoming could really make or break my experience.

bookmarklet to go to next item in a folder
Google Reader has a bookmarklet that goes to the next item in a feed or folder. It looks like this:
http://www.google.com/reader/next?go=nextauto&t=4586323219818568841&label=comics

Process the Unicode RTL Mark to display right-to-left content properly
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-to-left_mark
Seems like everything is processed as left-to-right at the moment.
88 votesWe’ve added RTL post detection to API and web interface.
Please vote for RTL interface, if you’re interested: http://theoldreader.uservoice.com/forums/187017-feature-requests/suggestions/5683750-rtl-interface-localization -
Block users from following or commenting
As an alternative to private accounts, allow users to share publicly but block others from following or commenting on their items.
87 votesThis has now been released. If you go to your settings, you can choose to protect your shared items. If selected, you must approve all new follow requests, and your shared items will not be available to anyone except your followers.
If you “like” a post, your name may still appear on the post for all users.
Additionally, any existing followers can be removed by going to your followers page.

Make the 'Mark All As Read' confirmation prompt optional
Suddenly clicking Mark All As Read pops up an extra unnecessary confirmation box.
It would be nice to be able to turn that off, as it is annoying.

Sending to evernote posts that I like
At this moment I do a think that is really great. I have a trigger on ifttt that send to Evernote each post that I like on GReader, that means that I my evernote account I have a folder that has inside all the posts that I liked, organized by the feed title. It's easy to do, maybe just adding RSS to the "Love" section, or integrating itself in The old reader (maybe better).
86 votesThis is now possible with the new Send To functionality

Within a folder, we should be able to chronologically without having to see all of the posts from one feed.
Unless I am missing the setting, it seems that posts are arranged by feed, then chronologically. In Google Reader, we are able to see posts chronologically, even if it means not showing all of the posts from one feed back to back (i.e. If Feed A has a post a noon and then 2:30, and Feed B has a post a 1:00, I would like to See The post from Feed A, Then Feed B, Then Feed A. It currently Shows the two posts from Feed A, then Post from Feed B)
78 votesActually, posts are supposed to be sorted by the time they are fetched. Due to some feed fetching delays we are seeing right now because of the massive influx of new users, new posts are being grouped by feed. This should stop happening as soon as we are back to normal feed fetching schedule. Please check http://status.theoldreader.com/ for the updates.

Add a link to a list of all dead feeds
The list of dead feeds on the home page is super handy! I'd love to see a list of all my dead feeds.
69 votesYou can now click on the title “Dead Feeds” to get a list of all your dead feeds.

Collapse folders as the default view
If you have many folders, it can be very tedious to browse with all of them expanded
63 votesWe have added shift+c/e shortcuts to collapse/expand folders. Also we are automatically collapsing folders by default on mobile resolutions.
Please note that folder state remains saved per-browser. -
Subscriptions: mass operations
A separate page should allow users to select multiple feeds and unsubscribe from them or move them to another folder.
61 votesThere’s now a subscription management page that allows you to unsubscribe from/move your subscriptions. You can get there by clicking on “Subscriptions” in the user name dropdown in the upper right.

Show Commented for friends' shares
It would be nice to have the "Commented" folder come up whenever there is a new comment on any of my friend's shares.

Add option to open items in background tabs
I generally read through feed items and open the ones I want to read fully in a seperate tab using middle mouse click. An option to always open tabs in the background when hitting 'o' would be very useful.
There are various ways to solve this using JavaScript, hopefully the team can find a good solution.
55 votesThere is now a “b” keyboard shortcut for that.
We could not make it work in Firefox, but feel free to send us patches if you know a cross-browser solution.

justify list view and add snippets
there's two huge changes your list view could use that would make it way more readable:
1) justify all of the article titles at the same indentation as each other. essentially, there should be a column for the feed title and a column for the article title - this is how google reader does list view. right now, having a tag prepended to the title in list view is hard to visually scan and is jarring.
2) include the initial bit of content from the article alongside the title. again, this is something google reader's list view does and it…

Make option to open "All Items" when clicking the extension

Clarify what normal and reverse order are.
In the settings, you have the option to sort the posts in normal and reverse order, some information about what normal and reverse are would be nice. For example
normal (new posts first)
reverse (old posts first)Or whatever normal and reverse are.

Ability to share with followers and not the public
I like the ability to share items publicly, but it would also be nice to only share items with people who follow you, all or specific people.
And it would also be nice if you could prevent people from commenting on your public shared items.
35 votesThis has now been released. If you go to your settings, you can choose to protect your shared items. If selected, you must approve all new follow requests, and your shared items will not be available to anyone except your followers.
If you “like” a post, your name may still appear on the post for all users.

Send subscriber count in user agent of feed crawler
The feed fetchers/crawlers of most web-based rss readers send the number of subscribed users in the UserAgent header when fetching the feed. This allows authors to track the overall subscriber count for their blogs. Please add such statistics to your crawler's UserAgent header.
31 votesDone. Format: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; theoldreader.com; 1 subscribers; feed-id=74898c0fee35cf8e1e9ba77f)

Make it possible to hide the subscription sidebar
In Google Reader the "u" key toggles subscription list display, and it remembers the setting, so that next time I open it the sidebar is hidden. I only look at the subscription list when I am managing my subscriptions, which is rarely. During normal reading it is completely uninteresting.
30 votesWe have added “Toggle sidebar” bookmarklet that should be helpful for some of you.
Please vote for fullscreen option.
